**1.0 WHY INFORMATION SECURITY?**

**Information –** is an asset, of value to the organisation, consequently requires adequate protection

**Information includes:**

Software: SecurePass, RiskManagementSystem (RMS), RiskGuard

Paper: Contracts, Agreements

Supporting Utilities: Network,

Hardware: Server, Laptop, Mobile, Access Control Kits

People: Management Team, Production Team, Ops Team

- Utilities themselves do not carry information, but they support other devices that carry information.
- Information can be static (e.g. stored on hard disk) or being transmitted (e.g. email)
- Whatever form the information takes, it must always be protected.
- Physical and IT security alone are not sufficient.  HealthSafe requires a management framework to improve information security.

- Protects information from a range of threats

- Ensures business continuity

- Minimises financial loss

- Maximises return on investments and business opportunities.
